About.

We are a nonprofit organization, located in Greenville, South Carolina, offering meal support with recovery mentors who are committed to seeing our clients gain mastery of their eating disorder. We will help individuals who are in recovery, bridge the gap between inpatient care and independent living.

Established in 2018

We at Hope Recovery Kitchen are aiming at establishing a missing piece in our community of people with eating disorders, as they learn to prepare and eat meals in a safe, homelike environment, and bridge the gap from inpatient care to  recovered, independent living.

Our Mission

  • To help people, diagnosed with eating disorders, get the meal support that is so desperately needed in outpatient care.
  • Collaborate with the other eating disorder professionals in the Upstate to help their clients reach for their goals of a recovered body.

Jessica Furtney
Co-founder  / CEO

I am a wife and mother of three teenagers. Balancing recovery and values has been a huge challenge for me. Knowing what it is like to struggle in the outpatient world, I desired very much to set up something that would  not only benefit me but others as well. I will be overseeing the business side of the kitchen, and letting Donata interact with the clients coming for help.

I am super passionate about bringing awareness to eating disorders and want everyone to be able to get the help that is so desperately needed.

Donata Buffalino
Co-founder / Executive Director

I got my nursing degree in Switzerland where I grew up surrounded by my Italian family. After high school and through college I was on a search for the meaning of life and this search ultimately brought me to Calcutta India where I volunteered long-term. This experience allowed me to work with and help people diagnosed with anorexic and bulimic disorders.

After getting married to my late husband from New York, I moved to the United States and have been a home school mom for the past fifteen years. Since moving to Greenville, S.C. I have continued to have opportunities to help those struggling with eating disorders and self-harm.
